OPERATION SOCIALISATION MACARTHUR

We have decided to implement something new into our Puppy Preschool program to assist owners in socialising their puppies better. Its called the Operation Socialisation Macarthur program.

The aim of Operation Socialisation Macarthur is to have a multitude of local businesses become Socialisation Stations where owners may bring their puppies in for a friendly visit.

Did you know that the number one reason that dogs get euthanased or surrendered to shelters or rehomed is due to behaviour problems? And many of the problem behaviours that we see can be prevented with good early socialisation!

In order for puppies to become well socialised with people and life, they need to have at least 100 positive experiences with different people and also with new places, other animals and the world in general, and all before 4 months of age, so that they may become accustomed to and confident with much of what life may offer them down the track. Dog bites are a big deal in the human world, we have very high standards that we hold dogs to in this area of behaviour yet rarely do we do enough to ensure they can meet those standards. If dogs are well socialised they will be less likely to feel anxious, fearful and potentially bite (and we need to get real and understand that ALL breeds, by defenition of simply being a dog, have the potential to bite). By having a multitude of Socialisation Stations available to owners they will be better equipped to socialise their puppies.

HOW TO BECOME A SOCIALISATION STATION: All it will require is your business being willing to allow owners to bring their puppies into the premises for a positive greeting with staff and be allowed to sniff and explore the environment and take a photo of their puppy socialising. It will also give owners an opportunity to practice their puppies polite greetings of sit for rewards so that they learn their manners when meeting people (i.e. sit rather than jump when saying hello). We will list your business on our website and Facebook page as a Socialisation Station and it will be included in all Puppy Preschool handouts.

This is a great way for local business to assit the community and provide dog owners better resources to raise a confident and well mannered dog that will live out a long and happy life with their family. Not to mention the free publicity your business will get!
