Intermediate Good Manners
The Positive Paws Intermediate Good Manners course is designed as a follow on from our Beginners Good Manners course. If you have completed our Beginners course and your teacher thinks you are ready then you can enrol into the Intermediate Good Manners Course.
With our Intermediate course we aim to give you a further understanding of learning theory so that you may better train your dog. We will teach you and your dog to advance skills previously learned and also learn some new ones! The course is also designed to fine tune any problem areas you may still have with your dog. We focus more on leash work, distance work and continuing to improve their basic life skills and manners.
Many people feel after they have done a beginner or puppy class with their dog that their dog should be perfect, but like any skill, training takes time and practice to master. If you feel you need more guidance than simply going it alone at home, then a group training class can give you the guidance and support you need. Of course, if you just enjoy training (like us!), then this group class offers you a way to build your skills and improve your dogs performance, social skills and spend some quality time with like-minded dog people.
As with all Positive Paws training classes, the course is set to be fun and interesting for you and your dog, and class is run in a positive, relaxed format where reinforcement is key and training is aimed for pet dogs and pet dog owners - not your typical regimented obedience style class! We find this works better for both dogs and owners as most owners are not looking for competition obedience, just socialised, responsive, happy and well mannerd dogs.
The obedience cues you will learn and improve on in this course are:
Connection Training for good leash manners and pleasant walks, and for building a great connection with your dog which will help with all aspects of training and living with your dog.
Sit; Down; and Stand
Come
Stay with release cue; and Wait
Off & Take It
Settle
On Your Mat and Stay
Say Hi & Go Play; polite on leash greetings of people and other dogs.
Targeting
Confidence building exercises
Tricks including shake, high five, roll over, beg, dance, commando crawl, take a bow, play dead.
Please note that we use Positive Reinforcement Methods to train your dog. We do not use check/choker chains or similar training aids. If you feel you need better on-leash control of your dog prior to attending class then please contact us, or check out our store, and we can advise you on the fitting and purchasing of dog friendly no-pull aids like Black Dog Head Halters or Black Dog Balance Harnesses. Alternatively we can fit them at class.
